I worry about too many complications. I get this, if that...

This is a hobby. We don't have anyone to do unnecessary tracking. We don't want to have a dispute between two owners. Ultimately, the league loses then. Simple, simple, simple. The simpler everything is, the better for everyone in the league. A one page rulebook is WAY better than an encyclopedia.

Red joined a league this year. Some of the nonsense drives me crazy. He's doing very well. No one has ever answered him in regard to how many games he may play his goaltenders. The Commish has twice made an announcement that players could be picked up on the waiver wire, with 24 or 48 hours notice. Then they get into some sort of a mad scramble. Whoever puts in first for the player gets him. Anyway, the lack of clarity in rules is enough to make anyone angry at times.

Nice clear and simple rules. Rules that eliminate as much manipulation as possible. Rules that create balance and allow everyone a chance to challenge for the top.

What sorts of things did you have in mind?

I'm not a big fan of side bets, like the one that you and Greg partook of this summer. However, I wasn't about to disallow it either. I'm guessing that most people aren't going to be doing things like that in the future.

As for special conditions, I don't think there is anything wrong with special conditions to a certain extent. Trying to place limits on these conditions would be the tough part, as there are numerous variations on this sort of thing. I think in most cases common sense will tell us if a specific special condition is inappropriate.

Nevertheless, please share your thoughts if you have some ideas.

I agree with Scoop that keeping things simple in most cases is better. However, there may be the odd time that two teams need to negotiate a special condition, and I am fine with that.

For example, the trade Greg and I did this summer where we agreed to the trade before our keepers were selected and then consummated the trade afterwards should be perfectly fine. I've heard of this sort of thing happening in a lot of leagues.

I must say that when I saw the side bets, I was a bit concerned. Side bets are fine but shouldn't be part of a trade.

As far as conditions go, I am fine with them as long as they are trade related. Make sense?

Simpler the better.
