PostSubject: 2012 Picks   Thu Oct 29, 2009 9:52 pm

I also notice that a 2012 pick was traded in the recent transaction between Greg and Brandon. I didn't think that 2012 picks were in play yet, and I would suggest that we should wait until next year to start trading them. I think two years worth of draft picks are more than enough to trade during any given year. Otherwise it gets a little bit too difficult keeping track of everything.

Thoughts from anyone?

If this is the case, then I would suggest Greg and Brandon come up with an alternate solution.

Cheers,
Matt

When you have the chance, can people please respond to this thread. This is an issue I'd like to discuss and decide upon ASAP.

I'd like to get as much feedback over the next day or two as possible. Smile

i guess i agree. i wasn't the one who proposed involving the 2012 pick in our deal though. also i thought that we couldn't trade jan picks that were more than a year away, but that has happened as well so i just thought there were basically no pick trading restrictions.

not sure what this means for the trade that just happened, what if one of the players invovled gets a season ending injury tonight and this trade is in limbo? pretty drastic scenario, but w/ all the players getting injured it wouldn't surprise me

This issue hasn't been addressed recently because we have been agreeing as a group to release certain sets of draft picks as we go along. The last I remember discussing this was in the winter of this year where we agreed to open up Sept 2011 picks.

Since we haven't discussed this as a group I would suggest that after every draft we open up the next draft to play. So, after the 2010 Jan draft this year we can open up the Jan 2012 draft picks for trading. Having two sets of Sept picks and two sets of Jan picks seems like a reasonable number of picks to trade IMO.

As for your trade Brandon, I think it's easy enough to solve. I think you and Greg should settle on an extra 2010 or 2011 pick instead of the 2012 pick. If you choose a 2011 pick (which I'm assuming you will), you have almost two years to figure out a way to add an extra draft pick to replace that one. I don't think you'll suffer too much.

This is a minor thing, but I thought it needed to be addressed now so that we could agree as a group on the rules. That way we all know the boundaries and limitations.

also did we ever figure out what we are doing with trades being pushed through i.e. are we going to do so, or are we just going to let all of them go through naturally. might as well figure this out, while we are discussing this topic

As a group we decided to push trades through on ESPN. There haven't ben any issues with any of the trades, and this approach fits with our league's trade culture. Check out the previous thread for more details.

The only reason I haven't pushed through your trade yet is because I was waiting for the 2012 draft pick question to be settled. I'm assuming you and Greg can work something out over the next couple of days, which means you should have your new players for next week's match-up.

If you can't work something out, well, I guess the trade won't go through. But I can't see something like an extra 2010 or 2011 draft pick (instead of 2012) dissuading either of you.
