Since we have so much traffic online at present, I thought it might be wise to bring up, brace yourselves ......... Free Agent Auction Bidding.
We held a poll some time ago which at last look was 5 in favour of slowly implementing FAAB vs 4 against implementing FAAB. I am not 100% certain who did not cast a vote, but my guess would be Christine who might have missed that thread as she grabbed the steering wheel from Jay.
At any rate, I recently received an email from a fellow GM who expressed some concern that the implementation of the FAAB would have the effect of drastically watering down the talent pool heading into the January mid season draft thereby making said implementation rather unfair for those GMs who owned many mid season picks vs those GMs that had few. Truth be told, that concern seems quite valid.
I wonder if we might want to revisit the FAAB idea? One possible solution would be for us to introduce it post mid season draft. That would allow GMs to beef up on any talent that might be available prior to our playoffs. It would also allow us to test drive it a bit prior to the following season.
Anyhow, I am all ears. I think we ought to talk this through and let everyone have their opportunity to speak before we make any changes that might provide some GMs with an advantage over others.

I don't mind trying it for, say, the month of January (before the trade deadline). Although that can also have the effect of discouraging trades, which work nicely hand-in-hand with our cascading keeper format to keep players moving back and forth between teams that are "going for it" and teams that are rebuilding. The current format is nice for both, in that teams that are going for it can sometimes get aging vets in exchange for some young talent.
Always an upside and a downside to everything. In any case, I'd be willing to give it a try this January to see how things go. But I'd be just as happy leaving things the way they are, as we have a great format that seems to work pretty nicely.

I would vote for a trial format. It will water down mid season draft for sure. I don't think we can really have both auction and mid season draft. I agree with Matt to trial after the mid season draft and would suggest we not allow any trading involving 2012 mid season draft so that we can vote if we want to try a trial next year for the whole season without mid season draft.

I am in agreement with John, not only because I wrote my first "Dear John" letter, but because he makes a lot of sense. And I will never hold it against him that he knows Greg for so long.
