if we are short a player after 5th round do we just pick up a player after everybody is done?
or do we then go to the waiver

Hi Brandon,

in trade #136, I received Shoreside's 3rd round January pick. FYI.

Thanks

Ray

And as afar as I know, I don;t have Shoreside's 4th round January pick. Maybe it was a typo with the 3rd round pick.

Not that it can, or should be adjusted for 2011, but I really don't think snake draft makes much sense. Snake draft is a draft used to even things out. To give everyone the same thing. Thus, it is used at expansion time. After the expansion draft, I believe the snake draft should be disposed of for the traditional seeded draft.

Well Scoop. That is a very interesting thought.

I never considered it really.

Something to think on come the off season.

That said, come our September draft, with our cascading format we are making some allowance to even the playing field.

Up till now we have not had a repeat champion which leads me to believe that the format is working. I wonder, if we were to add the traditional seeding on top of that, if it would be an over correction of sorts.

Yours truly.

I was thinking that the September draft would stay the way it is and the January one be more traditional style.

my thoughts anyway.

I tend to agree with gregger on this one. I think the Cascding format already corrects for this, so making the draft more traditional would make it almost impossible for a team to repeat.

My thoughts anyway.

I agree as well, the January draft has a different meaning than the September , it is running instead of waiver wire or bidding for free agents. Adjusting it to favor lower seeded teams mid-season makes sense , unless a different method of roster adjusting is implemented......

I'm for the traditional draft in september myself. I'd like to see the mid season draft replaced with bidding ultimately. I don't think it hurts the chances to repeat to much but does offer a bit of help for lower teams. Still loads of luck in winning this pool. just need someone to get lucky twice.

I'm not too much of a fan of the big difference in keepers between first and last though. I would vote for increasing keepers for 2013. Say 20(5 rookies) for top 6 and 22(6 rookies) for bottom 4.... something like that. That would also speed up the september draft. I drafted 17 players last year.

i like how we have it setup. something like that is pretty drastic.

honestly even though we haven't went through the auction draft, i like the midseason draft. i like our core setttings, hence why i joined th league.

i guess im just a scroooge that don't want change except me in the standings Smile

I'm torn a bit myself
I tend to agree with both

i do enjoy the mid season draft i think it adds something to this league
where maybe the waiver may ruin, im' not sure

Testing it out (Waiver) after this mid season draft should give us a chance to see what its like.

But it is fun having January draft picks as trade bait

BeitragThema: Re: 2012 JANUARY DRAFT   24.12.11 1:21

I will admit that I'm a fan of full keeper pools, love watching players develop and holding them and this pool makes way too much strategy on keepers and old verses young players in my opinion. Having 4 more keepers for last place over first place is what makes repeat winners in this pool impossible i think. traditional drafting over snake would be enough for me, and having us all keep the same amount. mind you I don't mind someone winning repeatedly, and i would not quit if i was last repeatedly, i'm stubborn that way. lol

I do like having a draft though, and don't mind the mid season draft either. Just think it might be more fun with pickups and having people with real bad injury seasons not have to trade away their team under pressure when they could just make a move to fill a spot. i also noticed that people are iffy on trading money or moves (depending on what we have). But I will say that in pools with them that people can trade them there is soooo much trading interest.

However if you have a good group of guys then the rules don't really matter. I love democracy and what ever the majority decide is always fine with me.... But I'll always be suggesting things that I think will spruce the pool up!

Thanks for sharing your ideas John.

I have to admit I'm with Brandon, however. I just think this set-up is so unique and has worked well to level the playing field with the cascading keeper format. Why try to fix something when it isn't broke? If people want to join a full keeper then there are plenty of those available (I am part of a full keeper in another league), and it should be fairly easy to be part of both.

Yeah, I'm in a full keeper pool and do want a draft. Hopefully next year I won't have to draft 17 again.... wait. I hope I do I mean. lol.

Just wondering if the complexity and focus on trading and drafting might be the reason we are having such a high turn over in this pool. I think it will continue until we either make it a little simpler or wait till we get guys that like this style of stratagy pool. I will admit that I LOVE the strategy side of it. But I have loads of free time to think strategy and like doing it. Someone that just loves hockey will not last I fear.

i think the focus on trading and drafting is what makes this league unique. before this i have never been in a league that didnt allow wiaver pick ups daily. this makes september picks matter that much more and makes for a very exiciting midseason draft. for example we got 2 guys in the top 10 in league scoring in the draft tomorrow, a sophmore coming off a 5 point night and looking like a solid keeper, not to metion a goalie who was leading the league in gaa sv% and so's a few days ago.

i love our settting, and i love how we have 10 keepers for 1,2 down to 14 for 9,10. i think when we set this league up matt and greg did their job! a few minor tweaks here and there over the years will be great but the core settings of the league has made it what it is today (the best league with 150 trades and 10000+ posts!)

also by forcing us to trade instead of waiver pick ups we have to talk trades with other gm's which improves theh relationship between owners and thus improves the overall health of the league.
