It is late ............. quick question.

I received a question from a GM, and wanted some feedback:

He was wondering if players could be traded once the draft started.  I think not.  At completion of draft of course, but not during as far as I recall.  Picks for certain.

Thoughts?

Manifesto States:

Trading Draft Picks: Apart from players, draft picks in both the January and September drafts are eligible to be traded. Note: Picks that are greater than 4 drafts distant may not be traded.

Does this answer it? Assuming that we are going by this section of the rule book! Hehehehe.

I believe that Manifest provision only states what is allowed to be traded during open trading periods and not specifically limiting what can be traded during drafting periods. I do not recall any players having been traded during drafting, but that doesn't mean there haven't.

Why should we restrict the trading if players during the draft?

Could this not be a way to get around the keeper limit? So, say I hold 12 now, then just wait till the draft to do a nifty 2 for 1 thereby giving me effectively 13 keepers. I seem to remember this kind of discussion once.

Although it is early and I have not had my coffee(s).....

I think we did discuss this many moons ago, and if memory serves, decided to keep trading to just picks until after the draft. However, I am not opposed to trading players DURING the draft. I think that has been done once or twice over the last year or two, no?

Does it not open the door to teams getting around the keeper limit? I could make a two for one trade with another GM as soon as the draft starts and I am, effectively, rolling into the draft with an additional keeper. It seems a little shifty really.

To be truthful, I am not fussy either way but I don't think we have ever traded players during the draft. Perhaps we should leave this season with just picks and then have a discussion about it this season and have it in place earlier.

Just picks is fine. Guys can wait a few days until after the draft to trade. That's my take.
