G'Day Everyone,
Sounds like our crew is already chomping at the bit to get things going for next season. I love seeing this kind of spirit! Quality guys in this league .... quality guys!
I thought I would start an official poll with the two different options, just to get a feel for what everyone's preference will be for drafting next year.
Personally, I would not be able to start a slow draft until August 28th (at the very earliest), as I will be travelling/camping for the entire summer, and for long periods of time will not have access to the Internet (fifteen days hiking through the Alps, ten days kayaking on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, etc). The reason for this? My wife and I will start trying for children in the next year or two, and we want to get some serious travelling done BEFORE that happens. It would be unfair to her to interrupt our travels this summer to keep up with a slow draft from June through August -- and as mentioned above, impossible in some cases. I will be checking in regarding trades and other messages whenever I can, but I just feel that trying to do a slow draft during the summer would be a bit too much.
Having said that, it DOES sound like most of you are keen on a slow draft format. If that is the group consensus then I think we should do it. Maybe start on September 1st (or around there) and draft one round every couple of days. It would mean that everyone would have to be around during September, of course, but if that's the case then I don't see anything holding us back from doing this.
So in my mind here are the two options:
1. A slow draft starting around September 1st.
Advantages: Greater anticipation. Opportunity for trade talk between picks. More time to make picks.
Disadvantages: Can be a distraction for some (like me) who will have a busy summer and fall schedule. Potential frustration for those who want things to go faster and frustration for those who are being prodded along.
2. A one-day draft around the third or fourth week of September.
Advantages: easier logistically from the standpoint that you can organize everything for a single day, although getting everyone on the same day can be a challenge. You would also have a better idea about which players are healthy, which teams players will be suiting up for, and other subtle nuances that can be important for putting together a championship team.
Disadvantages: Can be tough to organize everyone on the same day. Can be faster paced, although it would be nothing like last year when we did it through ESPN. We would likely do the draft through the forum and have a bit more time to decide. Also may not have the excitement factor some have talked about.
Please vote above. As well, based on our previous discussions on this topic, let me know what you're thinking or if you have any other ideas.
Cheers, Matt

I can't remember but I think I voted slow draft, but actually would like to do a one day draft now.

I guess that makes it four votes for a slow draft and three votes for a one-day draft. We still need three stragglers to place their votes.

Well, unofficially. Joel isn't sure, so he might have voted for a one day. Either way, its now 7-2 in terms of voting. So if we take one away it makes 6 (assuming my math checks out lol). So it would appear that we have a slow draft with atleast a 60% majority. The next step is to iron out the dates.

Yeah, Ray was the other one who voted for a one-day draft, as mentioned earlier in the thread. So with Joel's vote that would be three.
Not that it matters, the majority still wants a slow draft.
The only detail we need to iron out is dates, and the only remaining obstacle I can see is if somebody is going to be away for a big chunk of September. In which case we may be forced to play with a shorter period of time.
I'll send out an email to everyone soon so that we can get some feedback on this front.

I think that you are assuming that I voted for a one-day draft. You know what happens when you "assume" don't you? I believe that I actually voted for the slow draft version. Sorry to burst your bubble there Matt!
Charlize says that I'm terrible! But she should know!

No need to worry about hurting my feelings, Ray. LOL. I guess I made the assumption you voted for a one-day draft based on this comment you made in another thread:
"Having a sloooooow draft takes all the fun out of drafting, imho. Anticipation is exhilirating but not when it's measured in days instead of minutes."
In the end it doesn't matter anyway. The group has voted slow draft and as long as everyone will be around for September, we'll do things that way.
Cheers, Matt

man I can't wait for september.....LOL
When should we have the money for next season by? I would think sometime in August would be best to avoid last minute scrambling incase a GM wants out

Charlize likes it slow but not like 3 months. Now that's sloooooooooooooooow! LOL. I know my early comments seemed to impress upon everyone that anything more than a day was too much but really, something like a draft over the whole summer would've been too much to take. Excruciating I would think. And that would mean less time spent with Charlize.
Happy Easter! Enjoy all the egg hunting! My kids have a blast searching for all the eggs!
Enjoy fellas!

Sorry guys. I've not been checking in faithfully. I have voted now, not that it makes much difference.
