FYI, myself and two good friends of mine have started a website devoted to fantasy hockey. Although it is in it's infant stage, we believe we can add some value. We will be coming out with a draft guide shortly as well. We are working on getting the registration setup and social networking. Gotta find the chance to have a closer look at this site. What exactly is your involvement Ray? How many are involved? At first glance, this seems like a huge project ... especially if you are doing a full fantasy guide.

The website was created by myself, Steve (who participated in the Playoff Pool and Mike. We have been involved in fantasy hockey since 1995, Steve a few years earlier. Well, we decided that our hockey knowledge was as good as anyone else's and that we had something to offer. I have always used a tier system for my own drafting purposes. This system along with my ability to incorporate the intangibles has allowed me to be competitive year-in and year-out. I usually more often than not end up in the top three in any of the pools that I am involved in. So I have decided to try and market it.

Steve and Mike are also very good at drafting and managing teams to be competitive. Just take a look at some of our writings. We try to keep it just fantasy oriented with no filler other than fantasy-related news and information.

The draft guide consists of team analysis with very condensed and precise information for key players on each team. We also throw in some info on prospects for each team on the guide. We then break down the players into three categories (FWD, DEF & G). Each category is then broken down into tiers, or groupings if you like. Equipped with each groups tiers, you can then make quick and insightful decisions come draft day. You would have a sheet for forwards, a sheet for defensemen and a sheet for goalies.

When players are taken you simply cross them off the list. Now when your turn comes, you will see how many players of each position are available at the highest available tier. For example, you are about to pick and you need a Defenseman and a Forward. There are say 4 or 5 picks in between your and your next pick. In the highest level tier for FWDs there are 4 players left. In the highest available tier for DEF there are 2 players left. It would be smarter to take a defensemen first because they may not be there on the way back when you pick again. In this way, you would still get a forward of comparable statistics whereas you would have to settle for a lesser defenseman perhaps if you took the forward first. Thereby you would not be maximizing your potential.

So, the guide is valuable to any GM we think.

We just have to get noticed and have people take a chance on us.

But it's all fun and we enjoy writing and forecasting and hope that we can give some value to others.

Wow. That is a pretty intense project. As somebody who's been in the publishing industry for 16 years, I know how much time goes into something like this. Looking forward to having a closer look.

I will try and post some more sample pages (teams and tiers) from the guide hopefully tonight so that people have a better idea of what it is we have to offer.

Bought Ray's fantasy draft report at Prime Pucks and really enjoyed reading it. You guys have definitely put a lot of work into it.

My only regret is that I didn't read it before the draft. It would have given me an edge drafting against you my friend!

It definitely would have given you some deep insight as to how I analyze players that's for sure. But also with my tier system, I can always move players up or down depending on current news and players that get overlooked by others don't fall through the cracks. They stick out in the tier section.

Being that you drafted right before me, it would have been a huge advantage I think.

Maybe next year, or by the mid-season draft.

Crazy how much time you can pour into a web site! I did 30 hours weekly when I was running my internet newspaper. Good thing I was working shifts!
