Round One Thoughts

Well, congratulations to all who have survived round one. No big surprises unfortunately. I was really hoping for an upset somewhere along the way. We have some real crackerjack match ups heading into R2 and I am curious to see how things turn out.

I am now seeing a therapist three times a week who has some experience with fantasy sports. I am hoping that she can help me come to grips with my 0-8 record vs Matt and somehow find the strength to move on. Progress has been made of late as I have started to eat solid food again and my spontaneous crying episodes have diminished significantly.

Well, you certainly held your own in round one Gregger. ROund two was more about a sweet schedule for me than about your team crashing.

I expect I'll face a similar disadvantage in round two against Ray. His team has a pretty nice schedule compared to mine.

My Therapist said the same thing Matt. Strange.

And you'll be missing Ovy for 2 games....that sucks going into the playoffs without your best player. Thankfully your team is deep enough to absorb that though

We'll see if I have enough depth. With a less favourable schedule and without Ovie in week one, I'm thinking it's Ray's time to shine. I prefer to be a wee bit pessemistic and then surprise myself than to expect a win and lose in brutal fashion. But that's just me.

I think it's also worth noting that at this time last year both Brandon and Ray were not in the picture. Ray had missed the playoffs entirely, while Brandon had squeaked in at Eighth position and been handily defeated in the first round.

So ... I think this proves that with some savvy trades, a good September draft and a bit of luck, anybody can bounce back and compete for prize money within a single year.

Anyways, Price will be playing fantastic hockey in Edmonton next year so my goalies should be golden

lol, I'm in a fragile state right now. I find I drafted well and made two key trades at the begining of the season and gave up a lot of young to be able to go for it this year only to fall flat on my face. Thanks Joel for the support, as a token of appriciation I will lose every meeting we have next year.

What's funny about this is that Matt thought I was talking to him because of an unfortunate lack of punctuation.

But feel free to lose every match against me next season anyways. As we saw this year I can use ALL the help I can get.

Oh, its not a tease. I firmly believe Edmonton will get one of Halak or Price. I have been saying it since last summer that I could see Montreal trading Price by next summer.

Here is what I see happening:

Price + other asset (maybe a prospect or extra dman such as Gill, or Hamrlik, maybe O'Bryne), and probably our own 1st round pick.

for

Gagner + 1st round pick

I might be missing a component or two on either side but this would be the core of the deal.

Joel, as an Oiler fan what are your thoughts on this? I know that giving up on Taylor Hall would sting, but offense isnt really your problem since you guys have Penner, Hemsky, O'Sullivan, Cogliano, Nilsson, and possibly Eberle. IMO the weakness is goaltending and as soon as Price leaves town we all know he'll do great.

I don't think there's any way in hell Edmonton would give up the first overall pick. Even if it makes some sense in some ways (they are assuming Price bounces back), they could never sell it to their fan base.

If Price or Halak goes to Edmonton, they could only trade players that have struggled in the Big O.

I agree with Matt. They would lose so many season ticket holders if they traded away the Hall/Seguin pick, there's no way I see that trade happening with this year's 1st involved.

If you're talking about 2011 first rounder then there 'might' be a chance, but I'd say even that is slim.

It would need to be a combination of young players to make it happen - pretty tricky.
