Do you like the idea of Scoop's squirrel trophy?
Yes, I like the trophy idea and think the cost of mailing and "maintaining" it should be passed to the winner of each year.

Yes, I like the trophy idea, but think it would be too costly for the winner to mail and "maintain" it.

BeitragThema: Nutbars Trophy   Nutbars Trophy Empty10.09.09 14:07

Hello Everyone,

Last year we discussed some different options for a Nutbars trophy but didn't really settle on anything.

Scoop recently offered to make one that I think would capture the spirit of Nutbars du Canucks. This is what he says:

"Speaking of trophies, I got one to donate to Nutbars. I have to finish a dresser. When I do, I'll give it a new coat of finish. I've bugged my Dad that I want a 'stuffed squirrel'. He does taxidermy. He's not nibbling though. I thought a mounted squirrel with a shiny 'walnut' puck would be very cool. At the moment, I need to pickup a hockey figure for the little base and maybe plug on a few pucks. This little trophy has been looking for a job for the last 20 years. Nutbars! Nutbars! Nutbars!"

Now, I am not sure how big this trophy will be, or how easy it would be to mail it. Only Scoop can tell us those details (which I forgot to ask).

I wanted to get a sense as to what people thought about this as a trophy for our league. I believe Scoop would do it for free, and the cost of putting one's name on it and shipping it to the most recent winner would fall to the previous season's winner. And so on.

The one downside is that shipping it (depending on size) and having a little plaque created with your name on it could run $40-$60. So the winner would in essence be forfeiting some of their prize money for the bragging rights of having this trophy in their home for a year.

I like the idea, but please vote honestly. I'm sure Scoop won't be offended if you don't like this idea. We can always come up with other ideas.

And if you have ay other ideas, please share your thoughts in this thread.

It's likely that the regular season winner and playoffs winner would also be different, so we'd need to figure out for which of these the trophy was awarded.

My gut says playoff winner, but they get less prize money. SO maintaining and mailing the trophy would cut into their earnings a little more.

I love the idea of the trophy, but not loving the idea of the cost. Hmm.

i like the trophy, but i think that maybe the GM's should pay an extra $3-5 a year, and then the winner covers the rest

Cost of maintaining and mailing is probably $10 per year. The winner would need to take the trophy apart (a couple of bolts) and mail it on to the next guy. It would fit into a kleenex box once it was taken apart.

Well guys, in order to make this work well, we all have to beat Jay on an annual basis. Regular season and playoffs. Keep his fingers away from the hardware so he doesn't struggle to mail it back out!

But have you ever been in a league as cool as the nutbars?

Might be worth it for this league.

SCOOP

The mailing might be in the $10-$15 range.

But how much do you think it would cost the get the winner's name engraved on a small plaque? I'm assuming that is what you have in mind, isn't it Scoop?

Perhaps it would end up costing $20-$25 per year. Just want to make sure we account for everything.

I would also be in favour of adding two or three dollars to the annual fee to cover the cost, but I think we would need everyone on board to agree to that.

Well, I don't imagine the mailing is more than about $5. We're not Purolating, which races the stuff to the next spot for the next day. Canada Post can take three weeks to deliver it. It's not worth insuring it either. It's not worth anything. The whole package would weigh perhaps a pound or a pound and a half.

Typically trophy engraving is by the letter. Perhaps 25 cents per letter. I get the "Stan Ley Cup" done for about $15 each year. This was the most recent inscription. All participants get their name on the trophy.

2009 ROAD HOCKEY
J&J McKee
G&B Rundle
B&B Richardson
M&D Coffey
B&J Bowen
B&J McKee

was the inscription this year. That's about 70 letters.

Well, I voted yes.

It was easy since I don't have to worry about the cost of maintaining it or shipping it as I have no goaltending whatsoever. That was done intentionally to make life easy for Desolation Row.

Thanks to all who are doing the actual work.

No opinion on what it costs to send it to Switzerland. Sending to the U.S.A is more money too.

My mom sent us a box of cream of wheat last year (it is illegal here) and it cost her 48 dollars. I think the cost of the trophy to Switzerland would be outrageous.

Don't worry though. I will continue to trade away all of my goaltenders so as to reduce the chance of my becoming league champion to roughly zero.

I mail a lot of packages of a similar size and my feeling is that the cost of mailing would be about $10 to $15. Not a problem, but that is what I would estimate.

I think in the case of Greg, we would mail it to an address in Canada or the States and he could pick it up the next time he paid a visit. Not that he's in danger of winning anytime soon. What a Face

Engraving sounds reasonable, but I wonder if there would be a minimum charge of ten dollars or something. Or maybe not. I really have no idea to be honest. In any case, nobody here is named Ponikarovsky, so it shouldn't cost too much Smile

Final estimate: I think we could safely assume the trophy would cost $20 to $25 for engraving and shipping. We can either have the winner eat that cost (if everyone agrees to it), or we can add $2.00/year to the league fee, which also seems reasonable.

That extra $20 could be given to the winner of the playoffs (which I assume the trophy would be used for), so that they have twenty dollars extra to offset their costs for the next year, when they have to engrave it and mail it back.

What does everyone else think?

Well, I tell you what I think mister:

I am dedicating my life from this moment on to becoming League Champion. I will start said mission out by railroading you in the opening round beginning October 1st. You may have a scary avatar, you may be defending league champion, you may have Ovechkin, Green, Lecavalier, Kane etc., you may actually have goaltenders that remain healthy and play regularly but I am telling you right here and now that will not be nearly enough to hold back the fantasy tsunami that I am going to unleash this season.

On second thought, League Champion seems a little out of reach. I will simply dedicate my fantasy future to beating Matt Jackson come hell or highwater. I may be 0-4 so far, but just imagine if I won the next 60 meetings? That would put me up 60-4. Nice.

A curse on that fat bastard Turco. A curse on that selfish, tofu eating, 100% whole grain snack cracker eating Huet.

Enough said.

Love G.
