I'm playing an online hockey pool at Fanball this year and we get up to twenty player swaps throughout the year. I'm currently sitting in second place by a very slim margin, and last week I decided to use one of my last three swaps on dropping Malkin (with his injured foot) and picking up Kovalchuk, who had a very nice schedule for the rest of the season.
Well, the bastard got exactly ZERO points last week, despite four games (including three at home) and against some decent rivals. So I think, hey, maybe Kovy's having trouble getting going on NJ. So I use one of my last two swaps to drop him after only one week and pick up Zetterberg for the last three weeks.
It looked like it was going to pay off: Zetts scored three points last night.
Then that goofy Russian gets four points tonight, which will go to my closest competitor (he has Kovalchuk). Aaaaargh!!
If I stay in second place I win $5,000.00, so needless to say this isn't exactly working out the way I had planned.
