Trade deadline

Hey I noticed there were some waiver moves yesterday. Wasn't the deadline last wednesday?

When Scott asked me this week I said no more moves could be made?

Pretty sure last year waiver pickups ended when our deadline passed.
To allow pickups in our playoffs would be very unfair.
You could just drop guys and pick up ones who play more games that week.
Especially since its a 1 week playoff.

I agree. In my opinion the waiver pick-ups should be disallowed once the trade deadline has passed. However, I am not sure about what the group agreed, so before I do anything I'll wait for further guidance.

I just spoke with Greg about this, and you are right Brandon that waiver wire pick-ups should have been stopped after the trade deadline passed.

I see that Scoop added two players to his squad, and that they are both on his squad this week. Scoop is an honest as the day is long, so the only explanation here is that he forgot, and that in the busyness of family life Greg and I missed this. I have a new baby in our house, and have been trying to manage my business and putting a new book together while also managing the baby. And I know Greg is tied up continuously with a very busy family schedule. This is just saying that, when family life is so busy, things can slip through the cracks. It does not mean there is no resolution to it though.

I am not sure if an adjustment can be made with his roster this week. We can try that approach. If that doesn't work, then we can simply wait for the week to finish, make a manual adjustment of points, and determine the winner of the match-up this way.

Long and short: Greg and I apologize for missing this, and we do appreciate your patience and understanding.

I have manually gone in and adjusted Scoop's roster going forward. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about this week, so we will track the performance of Pitkanen and Meszaros vs. Barrie and Kindl and make a manually points adjustment at the end of the week.

Also I would gladly include taking over a part time commish job to give you guys some free time. I should be able to squeee it in along with playing playstation 3, watching the Leafs and the Blue Jays, sleeping and drinking beer!!

but theres 8 other GMs in the league that can spot that stuff and report it to you guys. We cant expect you 2 to catch everything all the time.

while we are on the subject of trade deadline can we bring up a certain topic needed to discuss and solve it for the up coming year. it seem like we have a few things to clear up before the start of next season and I think we should just dive in one at time!




when will the trade deadline be next year?

are we having a January draft and then continuing with FAAB?



My first vote is to just have the January Draft, however I know this will likely not be the case.


So my second vote will be to have the January draft beginning January 2nd every year and continue with $50 FAAB ending with a trade deadline date of the Friday night at midnight ET with 4 full weeks to go before our league playoffs begin.

I would vote to have our trade deadline the same as the NHL deadline. It gives us an opportunity to see what moves are made at or just before the deadline and then react to them. There are huge moves made at the deadline at times (Iginla for example) and that can have a big impact on players value. Important information.

I am in favour of canning the January draft altogether and sticking with the FAAB throughout. I like the bidding and I find it hard to concentrate on the mid season draft with all that goes on in and around the holidays.

That said, I am a flexible dude and I will go with what the majority is happy with.

I would vote for the combo, mid season draft then FAAB afterwards. But probably lower the FAAB $50 down to say $25 or $30. $50 could be alot with the draft.

As for trade deadline, i would vote for having it a few weeks away from our playoffs at least.
If its 4 weeks then im fine with that. Having it so close to the playoffs this year i did not like.

Maybe after a few more ideas are thrown out there we can set up some sort of poll to have a vote and make a final decision

i think having the trade deadline on the actual nhl deadline is just way to late. the nhl does it at this point and then has those players play weeks of regular season games then go into playoffs. the way we have it is; we have the deadline and then its pretty much the playoffs the following week.

we are a fantasy league and our playoffs end when the nhl regular season ends. if we want to be like the nhl we need to realize the fact that we are not playing come NHL playoffs and move the trade deadline up.

by doing this teams need to decide if they are going to be buyers or sellers, and it will reward teams with depth come playoffs since no team has been able to update their roster 1 month prior to playoffs.

I think I like the idea that Jarrett mentioned of having the midseason draft and FAAB afterwards.

As for the trade deadline, I think that is should be further away from the start of our playoffs too. I understand what Greg is saying about how it is nice to have the info as to where players are ending up but this year it was too close to our playoffs. It would be nice to have our set rosters for a little bit before our playoffs begin.

I tend to like the combo approach: mid-season draft and FAAB after that until the trade deadline. I also think the trade deadline should be at least two weeks before OUR playoffs start.

So by the looks of it so far

Brandon, Scott, Matt, Jarrett - prefer mid draft and Faab
Greg - prefers FAAB all year no mid draft

That look about right?

FAAB after the mid-season draft with a lower limit of $25 so that people (including myself) will not just make a move because they have money to burn.

TRADE DEADLINE a few weeks before our playoffs with, now hear this one-you're going to love it-open up trading for just the NHL trade deadline day. A one-day only trading day as long as our playoffs haven't started.

That could add a little excitement!

As for the whole trade deadline topic it seems like most guys are in favour of moving up the deadline so its not the same as the NHL.
But theres been alot of ideas as to when exactly to set the date. So that topic might require a bit more discussion.

I"m a fan of FBBA all year, And I like having trade deadline before playoffs start. 2 weeks at least but I'd be for even more.

also looks like everyone is an agreement to move the trade deadline up. maybe we could start a poll to : 2 weeks 3 weeks 4 weeks 5 weeks before our playoffs start, or something along those lines
